The death of Carrie Elizabeth Romney, the sister-in-law of former U.S. Senator Mitt Romney, has been officially ruled a suicide, according to findings released by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

Carrie, 64, died on October 10 after falling from the roof of a five-story parking garage in Valencia, California, located near the Town Center Drive shopping district. First responders were called to the scene around 8:30 p.m., where she was found unresponsive and pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.

The medical examiner determined that Carrie suffered multiple blunt-force traumatic injuries consistent with a fall from height. Following a detailed review of evidence and autopsy findings, officials classified the manner of death as suicide.

At the time of her death, Carrie was in the middle of a divorce from Mitt Romney’s older brother, George “Scott” Romney. Court records show Scott had filed for divorce in June, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The separation had been ongoing for several months, marking a difficult chapter for the family.

Mitt Romney said the family was “heartbroken” by the loss when news first emerged in October, requesting privacy as loved ones grieved.

Carrie Elizabeth Romney leaves behind children, extended family, and friends who described her as warm, caring, and deeply devoted to her loved ones.
