A Missouri man is facing multiple domestic assault charges after prosecutors say he targeted his former partner in a series of violent attacks that occurred just days apart. Court records outline two separate incidents in October involving 31-year-old Christopher Brayton, each escalating in aggression and leaving the victim fearing for her safety.
In the most alarming incident, investigators say the victim was asleep in a bed at a residence where she had been staying temporarily. She reportedly woke up to find Brayton lying behind her in the bed, telling her “I’m home.” When she attempted to escape the room, officials say he grabbed her under her armpits and tried to slam her to the ground, but she managed to break free and flee.
Authorities also detailed an earlier incident just days prior, in which Brayton allegedly assaulted the same woman during an argument. Prosecutors note this pattern of violence is not new: the defendant is already facing separate domestic assault charges from previous incidents reported in June and July, all involving the same victim.
Jefferson County prosecutors opposed bond, arguing that Brayton poses an ongoing danger due to the repeated nature of the allegations. They emphasized that despite a history of charges and previous incidents, the violence has continued, prompting renewed calls for his detention as the case proceeds.
The case highlights the persistent threats faced by victims of domestic violence, even after a relationship ends. Additional hearings and filings are expected as prosecutors move forward with the latest charges.
