President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he has granted a full pardon to Texas Representative Henry Cuellar and his wife, Imelda Cuellar, wiping out federal charges of bribery, money laundering, and conspiracy. The Cuellars had been indicted last year — accused of accepting nearly $600,000 in bribes from an Azerbaijani energy company and a Mexican bank in exchange for political influence.
Trump said the prosecution was part of a politically motivated campaign by the Biden administration, claiming Cuellar was targeted because he had publicly criticized Biden’s immigration policy. “Your nightmare is finally over!” Trump wrote in his post announcing the pardon.
